OUR DOGS

Our dogs are our best friends. We currently have two Labs. Issac is our young chocolate male and Rachael is our little black female.

It all started over 25 years ago when my wife received Kristopher as a college graduation present. A few years later Joshua was thrown from a moving van and ended up on our doorstep. We wondered if a hound-shepherd cross would grow up to think he was a Lab. When we lost Kris we almost went to another breed because we were not sure we could be happy with another Lab. As luck would have it (although others say it was divine intervention) we were subscribing to a small periodical about country living. The advertising manager was breeding Labs and he decided to advertise in only this paper. We saw the ad; made an appointment to see the litter and Angus told us he was our puppy. Josh had a "terrifying" little brother! Next came Travis. When we introduced him to the established pack we wondered how the group dynamics would work out. Travis soon found that Josh was top dog. That was fine with Angus because he thought he was a person and the dogs had to work out their own order. Rachael came into our lives totally by surprise. We went to the breeder's house to help her bitch whelp and two days later Rachael was ours. Shortly after we got Rachael home we lost Josh to old age in August of 1995 and we lost Angus to a brain tumor in December of 1995. We were devastated! Another breeder friend who helped with Rachael had a litter of chocolate puppies. One day she showed up at our house and said "Here is your puppy. He is an easy dog who doesn't ask for much." We could not talk her out of it and that is how Issac became part of the family. We just lost Travis in 2000 to an as yet undetermined cause. We suspect a tick borne disease.

The pages are not being done in the order in which the dogs came to live with us. I wanted Travis to be first to see if we can find some answers. As I get the othere dog's pages finished the links will be added.
